The CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh State Secretariat, which met in Vijayawada on Monday under the chairmanship of K. Lokanatham, in the presence of Politburo members BV Raghavulu and U. Vasuki, passed a series of resolutions on major political, social and economic issues facing the state.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, party state secretary V. Srinivasa Rao outlined the resolutions passed at the meeting.
He said the CPI(M) strongly condemned the bomb blasts in Delhi, condoled the bereaved families and demanded immediate arrest and strict punishment of those responsible.
Except for the agenda of the upcoming Visakha Partnership Summit, Mr. Srinivasa Rao pointed out that none of the 37 plenary sessions included discussions on workers’ welfare, regional development, employment or social guarantees. “Development cannot be achieved through investment alone, the workforce must also be supported,” the resolution says, calling for a special session on these topics.
On the controversial special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the CPI(M) demanded that the Election Commission convene an all-party meeting on November 16 in Vijayawada. Mr. Srinivasa Rao submitted that the SIR process lacked legal validity under the Representation of the People Act as no public notice was issued as required by Section 21 of the Act and Rule 10-11 of the Registration of Elections Rules. He urged the state government to suspend the rollout, noting that the matter was pending before the Supreme Court.
The CPI(M) has also demanded immediate central assistance of ₹1,000 crore for the victims of Cyclone Montha, compensation for tenant farmers and cancellation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, alleging that it benefits private insurance companies rather than growers.
Other resolutions demanded fulfillment of allotted parts of the house, measures against fake liquor and belt shops, protection of allotted lands, withdrawal of the Central Electricity (Amendment) Bill and reversal of the move to privatize state medical colleges.
