The court rejected the bail plea of BJP councilor R Sugathan
A Nedumangad court on Saturday rejected the bail plea of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation councilor and BJP leader R. Sugathan.
The cases were filed in connection with the assault on a native of Aruvippuram at Vellaikadavu Junction near Vattiyoorkavu and assault on police officials who came to arrest him on charges under the provisions of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).
Magistrate Court II, Nedumangad, on Saturday dismissed both the pleas and Mr. Sugathan will remain in Viyyur Central Jail, where he was kept under the provisions of KAAPA.
Mr. Sugathan has a total of 12 cases against him, including those related to attempted murder, assaulting police officials, intimidation and destruction of property. Mr. Sugathan’s arrest and subsequent developments have been at the center of a major political row in the BJP-ruled Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
