The court ordered an FIR against MLA Najeeb Kanthapuram
The Manjeri Chief Judicial Magistrate has directed the Melattur police to register a First Information Report (FIR) and investigate a complaint against Perinthalmanna MLA Najeeb Kanthapuram for allegedly threatening the Bar Commissioner and obstructing official duties.
The order came on the basis of a complaint filed by Bar Commissioner KP Krishnakumar. According to the complaint, the MLA misbehaved and sent the advocate and his team away when they reached a house in Vengoor near Perinthalmanna to carry out the attachment based on the court order.
The court had previously asked the police for an explanation. Police told the court that the MLA reacted emotionally after the family warned that they would die by suicide if the house was annexed.
However, the police report does not mention whether an FIR was registered or whether a formal investigation was conducted against the MLA. The court subsequently ordered the police to register the case and investigate the complaint in accordance with the law.
The incident also led to contempt proceedings against the MLA. He appeared before the court on October 9 through his lawyer and apologized unconditionally.
The contempt notice was issued over allegations that the MLA was obstructing the Bar Commissioner from acquiring the house on the basis of a court order.
The decision on the apology request is to be delivered by the court on October 16.
