The Consumer Correction Commission in the Ernakula district has ordered a multiplex company to be informed about the availability of free drinking water at its premises.
The panel issued an order rejected by a complaint against the ban on food and drinks from outside in the PVR cinemas in Lul Mall here.
The complaint was filed by Sreekanth Indukaparakkal from Kurvatur, Kozhikode, September 16, 2022, after booking tickets for the film on the screen in Multiplex 21 April 2022.
He claimed that the Cinemas PVR forced consumers to buy food and beverages exclusively from its stores at allegedly excessive prices, leaving no practical alternative or competitive choice by promoting external consumables while limiting the patrons in the theater.
He bought refreshments from internal counter, which included one regular salted popcorn (90 g) and one spicy chicken hamburger (255 g) a total of 450/- including GST (250 and 200 GBP).
In his response, PVR claimed that he worked lawfully in the multiplex and provided free drinking water RO (reverse osmosis). Patrons are not forced to buy food or drinks and can simply refrain from buying or decide to visit another cinema.
The ban on external meals is a standard and adequate input condition-comparable condition with the rules in entertainment parks, stadiums and theaters-filled in safety, security, hygiene and operational interests (including a limited period of turnover, absence of airport and risk such as alcohol, PAD, or inflammatory and inflammatory).
The Commission including DB Bin, President and V. Ramacandran and TN Sreevidya found that there was no reliable material to prove that the services of opposite parties have fallen below legal or contractual standards.
The panel ordered the company to strictly adhere to its obligation and ensure the continuous availability of drinking water RO RO to all customers during the working hours. The device must be maintained in clean and hygienic condition and the striking wall boards will be displayed at suitable locations in multiplex spaces informing customers about the availability of free drinking water RO.
