BC Infrastructure and Investment Minister Janardhan Reddy on Thursday informed the Legislative Council that Andhra Pradesh is all set to increase its sea handling capacity by completing the construction of Ramayapatnam, Machilipatnam and Mulapeta seaports by the end of 2026.
Responding to a question raised by MLCs Perabathula Rajasekharam, BT Naidu and Beeda Ravichandra, the Minister said that Visakhapatnam Port is the only major port in the state operating under the control of the Central Government with an annual cargo handling capacity of 141.60 million metric tonnes, while Adani-Gangangaram (64 million metric tonnes) and MMTPApatnam (64 MMTPA) Kakinada Deep Sea Port (26 MMTPA) was under administrative powers of the AP Maritime Board (APMB).
Kakinada Anchor Port (5 MMTPA) and Ravva Port in Konaseema District (2 MMTPA) were under the direct management of APMB.
The Minister said that Ramayapatnam Port is to be completed by the end of April 2026, Mulapeta Port by November 2026 and Machilipatnam Port by the end of 2026.
APMB bore the cost of land acquisition under the “land owner model” and construction of the necessary rail and road links.
The National Highways Authority of India provided road connectivity to NH-16 and the state government facilitated the acquisition of land for rail connectivity at the concessionaire’s expense. Integrating these ports with a proper logistics network would establish Andhra Pradesh as India’s leading sea gateway, the minister added.
