The Congress on Friday (October 9, 2026) cited an article published in The Hindu in which it alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls resulted in erasure of genuine voters and undermined the constitutional guarantee of adult suffrage.
Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh shared the article on X and said, “Here is a thorough analysis of how SIR is destroying the letter and spirit of Article 326 of the Constitution and deliberately disenfranchising Indians.

“SIR was a malicious tool used by the CEC (Chief Election Commissioner) to maintain the rule of the evil duo,” he added.
In a separate post referring to a report by The Reporters’ Collective, Mr. Ramesh claimed that 2.96 lakh voters were removed from the electoral rolls of Uttar Pradesh during the SIR, the highest number among the states where the exercise was conducted.

He also questioned the addition of around 16 lakh voters through Form 6 and alleged that their details were not released despite requests for information.
Mr. Ramesh further alleged that 85,854 pre-filled copies of Form 7, used to object to ballot papers, were generated through the ERONet software after the deadline for filing claims and objections had expired.
He challenged the procedure, arguing that voter registration officials could not act both as complainants and adjudicators.
The charges come amid escalating opposition protests demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities.
