On Thursday (October 2, 2025), the police registered the company to identify and arrest those who are behind the deep video circulation that attributed the false statement to Ladakh to the CEO of the Police (DGP) SD Singh Jamwal.
The Press Information (PIB) Office said that the video in which DGP Jamwal is reportedly considered to be the claim that Sonam Wangchuk, climate activist, was arrested according to the Minister of Defense.
The video became viral on social media platforms.
“The District Police Leh has been announced that video Deepfake (digitally morphed) is spreading on the social media platform.
“The video has been digitally manipulated using Deepfake Al with a harmful intention and has the potential to disrupt peace and harmony in the region. In addition to the 148 Police Station, according to sections 353 (2), 356 Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and 66C and 66D IT,”
He added that further investigation is underway.
“The District Police recall the public to always verify the content before sharing such videos. Such misinformation is strictly engaged in law,” the statement said, “If someone encounters such misleading posts or videos, it is required to inform immediately about cyber cells.”
On September 30, she said that the PIB control unit said that the digitally changed video Ladakh DGP was making a bike of social media, which is shown to claim that Wangchuk has been arrested from the Minister of Defense.
Police arrested Wangchuk 26 September, two days after the protests demanded Ladakh’s statehood and the status of the sixth schedule, four people left the dead and 90 injured in the Union.
Mr. Wangchuk was in custody of the police party led by Jamwal.
