The Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has sought a report from Prakasam district officials about the alleged sexual abuse of a girl from the BC Welfare hostel and will visit the hostel to investigate.

A hostel cook allegedly sent two girls to a private house in Ongole town on September 29, where one of them was allegedly abused by a retired employee. The accused was arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO).

Speaking to The Hindu on Saturday (October 3, 2026), SCPCR member Vundavalli Gandhi Babu said the Commission has expressed concern over the incident and directed the officials concerned to conduct a detailed inquiry.

“The commission has directed Prakasam district officials to submit a report,” said Mr. Gandhi Babu.

“The committee will visit the hostel, talk to the staff and students and conduct an investigation,” he added.

Children in need or anyone with information about abuse can call the children’s helpline on 1098.
