District collector Arjun Pandian ordered an incident in which the body of an older man, Thomas, 79, was left outside his house in Arimpur after his son allegedly locked the house and left and refused to accept the body.
Thomas, a native of Kaippily in Arimpur, his wife, Rosily, lived in a shelter after he was allegedly subject to harassment by his son and brother -in -law.
Eight months ago Thomas and Rosily filed a formal complaint against the Anthikkad police. While Thomas was taken to the House of Manalor Shelter, Rosily was moved to another shelter in Karamuck by the Ministry of Social Justice.
Thomas died on Wednesday reportedly due to fever -related illness. As part of the last ceremonies, his body was brought to his residence in Kaippyly for public viewing and funeral prayers. The situation, however, became desperate when his son allegedly locked the house and left the space and refused to accept the body.
For several hours
Without another possibility, relatives and locals were forced to keep the body in the courtyard of the locked house for several hours. Mrs. Rosily and her daughter arrived in the house as they heard the news and stayed with the body all the time of suffering.
Despite several attempts of relatives and the police, there was no answer. Finally, with the support of the locals, the funeral was carried out in the church of St. Theresa’s Ship Church in Erava.
The district collector ordered the district official of social justice to submit a detailed report on this matter.
