The Inspection of Fitness School Vehicles started on Saturday at Manjakuppam.
The Committee, headed by collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar and other officials, carried out inspections of school buses to find out whether they had satisfied the specified 25 -point standards. The inspection would continue in the next few days.
Officials checked vehicles for fire extinguishers, first aid boxes, emergency exits and speed governors. They also made sure that the participants were appointed buses to help students in boarding and performances.
Drivers will also be checked and must have at least five years of experience. The school management was given a week to set the right shortcomings, said the clerk.
Firefighters performed a demonstration on the ways of evacuating students from school vehicles safely during emergency and ways of fire. Officials from school and transport departments participated.
