The CM will inaugurate Kochi Corporation’s third ro-ro vessel on Sunday

Built at the Cochin shipyard, the new ro-ro vessel can accommodate 14 trucks, 12 cars and 50 passengers.

Chief Minister VD Satheesan will inaugurate Kochi Corporation’s third vessel at Vypeen jetty at 9.30 am on Sunday.

Although the vessel was launched on June 22, business operations were delayed until its formal inauguration by the Chief Minister. The revision meeting in this context was led by the mayor VK Minimol. She announced that free rides will be offered to women on ro-ro boats in line with the state government’s Priyadarshini scheme of providing free travel to women in regular KSRTC buses.

The ship was built at the Cochin shipyard and can accommodate 14 trucks, 12 cars and 50 passengers. It has been designed to overcome the shortcomings of the existing ro-ro fleet and is expected to ease travel difficulties on the Vypeen-Fort Kochi route.

The maintenance of the existing vessel will be completed first in collaboration with Kerala Shipping and Inland Navigation Corporation Limited (KSINC). Once the new ship is commissioned, the two existing ones will gradually be in dry dock.

Corporation Standing Committee Chairmen Antony Painuthara, TK Asharaf, PM Naseema, Shakrita Sureshbabu, Seena Gokulan, KA Manaf and Jismi Jerald attended the meeting.
