Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan fired a barrage of questions at Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan sharply criticizing the opposition for its antagonistic stance towards all development projects brought forward by the Left Democratic Front government.
In a Facebook post written on Tuesday in the first phase of the local body elections, Mr Vijayan questioned Mr Satheesan’s stance on the stand taken by former UDF convener and senior Congress leader MM Hassan that all four development initiatives launched by the LDF government, including the LIFE mission, would be disbanded. He asked if Congress still held that position.
He accused the opposition of joining hands with all the unwarranted opposition against the Vizhinjam port and asked Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan, now that the Vizhinjam port has been commissioned, whether he still maintains his opposition.
Mr. Vijayan questioned whether Mr. Satheesan would continue to oppose the Wayanad Tunnel Road, work of which had already begun, and the Coastal Expressway, which the opposition had vehemently opposed and which was now nearing completion.
He reminded the opposition leader that the government, which provides social pension to 62 million people, was branded by AICC general secretary KC Venugopal as mere bribery to get votes. Mr Vijayan asked if Mr Satheesan also considered social pensions a bribe and those receiving social pensions “bribes”.
Mr. Vijayan pointed out that the National Highway Development Project and the GAIL Gas Pipeline were vehemently opposed by the opposition, but that both the projects are now a reality.
Through KIIFB, Kerala has launched unprecedented development initiatives that have been key to the progress of the state. Mr. Vijayan accused the opposition of joining the Centre’s alleged attempts to disrupt these development activities being carried out through KIIFB.
Schools and hospitals have been modernized and many public facilities have become world-class thanks to KIIFB funding. Will the Leader of the Opposition continue to oppose these development initiatives, asked the CM.
He reminded the opposition that it had opposed Kerala’s efforts to eradicate extreme poverty and leveled false allegations against the project.
Kerala Bank, K-Phone and K-Rail were also against the Congress. Mr. Vijayan said the Congress had opposed every development initiative that was brought forward by the Left government
He also pointed out that it was bizarre that the Leader of the Opposition was claiming that “the CPI(M) was in the dock” even as there were allegations of sexual harassment by its own MLA and a Youth Congress leader.
