Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday directed transport department officials to strengthen road safety measures, including regular vehicle fitness checks and driver health checks.
Issuing instructions at the review meeting, Mr. Reddy asked the department to ensure that all relevant transport data is filled and made available online. He also emphasized that fitness tests of school buses and other vehicles must be conducted strictly and in accordance with safety standards.
Mr. Reddy instructed officials to organize eye tests for Telangana State Road Transport Corporation bus drivers as well as truck and other truck drivers. According to him, such screening camps should be established in places where a large number of drivers usually gather so that more drivers can take the tests.
In another measure aimed at improving road safety, Mr. Reddy directed the department to set up a dedicated WhatsApp number through which the public can report major potholes and accident-prone spots on roads.
