The League for Heritage Protection urged the State Government and Tiruchi Corporation to abandon the 22-Acre Park in Edamalaipatti Pudur to the vegetable market and quote the loss of trees and vital public equipment.
K. Chandrasekar, the league coordinator for the protection of the inheritance, said on Tuesday Perspersons in Tiruch that Park-Vinted in 2013 public and government financing-it causes medicinal trees, hiking tracks, gym in the air and meditation zone.
“Due to poor maintenance, the park has gradually deteriorated. But instead of renewing it, the company is now planning to convert it to the integrated vegetable market,” he said.
Mr. Chandrasekar claimed that several trees were cut under the pretext of transplantation. “Many of them were simply a cutter and left on the ground. Replacing their ornamental seedlings does not offer a true ecological value elsewhere,” he said.
It challenged the need for a new market when the Kalliku equipment remained insufficiently used and more than 300 acres of land are available near the upcoming Panjapur bus terminal.
Commissioner of the corporation V. Saravanan told Hindu that the country was not officially classified as a park. “The trees are not faced, but transplanted. 10 will be planted for each tree. The project was approved by the district administration and the district green committee,” he added.
