A 24 -year -old man from China has become popular on social media after leaving the master’s degree at Fudan University in Shanghai to open a street stand. FEI YU’s decision attracted attention and many people talked about their story online.
Fei grew up in a poor family in Leshan province in Sichuan. Despite his modest beginnings, he worked hard to get to Sichuan University, where he studied public health and first graduated in his class. His impressive academic record helped him provide a place at the postgraduate school Fudan University, without having to pass the entrance examination, according to a report by the South China Morning Post.
After just one period in Fudan, however, Fei decided to leave. He said the pressure from his studies, along with depression, insomnia and stomach problems, made it impossible to continue. He also mentioned bad treatment of his mentor, but he does not know the appointment of the teacher. “I couldn’t continue my study,” he explained.
After staying at home for a year, FEI applied for PhD programs in preventive medicine in the United States. He was accepted with a scholarship, but a reduction in financing during Donald Trump’s Presidency meant that the school had withdrawn its financial support. Fei could not allow his studies abroad.
From a simple background – his father worked as a miner of coal and his mother did various special work – Fei decided to try something else. He remembered the sale of balloons with his grandmother as a child and worked on sale part -time during the university. He decided to start his own company and March 10 opened a porridge stand near Fudan University.
“So far, business performance has been satisfactory,” Fei said, explaining that he earned between 700 and 1,000 yuan (around $ 100-140) a day. His food became popular and customers often stood up to buy it.
Fei does not regret his decision. “I don’t feel embarrassed at all. I am an outgoing person,” he said. “If he thinks the taste of my food is nice, he will definitely return to buy.”
Although some critics believe that he has missed his education, Fei disagrees. “I don’t think it’s a pity that I have completed my master’s degree in my master and I did not take a job related to my major. In my opinion, the result is not so important, but the process is.”
FEI spends about four hours preparing food every day before opening the stand at 17:00. It is often sold within two to three hours. “It is exhausting. But I have no psychological pressure from academic studies. I have the extraction of studying or conducting scientific research that I have entered the new world,” Fei said.
