The Chinese ambassador to India Xu Feihong killed US President Donald Trump over his 50 % tariff on New Delhi on Thursday.
“Give bullying about the thumb, taking a mile,” wrote the Chinese envoy to India on X.
His contribution was accompanied by a quote of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who said August 6 that the US is using tariffs to suppress other countries.
“The use of tariffs as weapons to suppress other countries violates the UN Charter, undermines the WTO rules, and is unpopular and unsustainable,” he said in a telephone call with Celso Amorim, the main advisor to President Brazil.
Feihong’s notes came for hours after Trump indicated the possibility of slapping other tariffs to China for another purchase of Russian oil.
On Wednesday (local time), the US President hit India with other tariffs 25 percent specifically tied to the purchase of Russian oil. India replied that the decision “unfortunate” and compared to other countries, including China, which bought oil from Russia, but did not approve of such sanctions.
Donald Trump suggests another Chinese tariff
Donald Trump indicated on Thursday that he could increase tariffs to China by her continuing ties with Russia, a country that he had rebuked late during his war with Ukraine.
At a press conference in the White House, the US President was asked whether such secondary sanctions would apply to China, given that the Chinese are the largest buyers of Russian oil.
“It can happen, I don’t know, I can’t say it yet, we’ve done it with India and we’re probably doing it with a few others, one of them could be China,” Trump replied.
According to the Center for Energy and Clean Air Research (CERA) for June 2025, China bought 47 %of Russian raw exports, followed by India (38 %), EU (6 %) and Turkiye (6 %).
“China will always ensure its energy supply in a way that serves our national interests,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday, and responded to the American threat of saving 100 % tariff.
“Nothing will be forced and pressure. China will firmly prevent its sovereignty, security and development interests,” the ministry said.
