The Children’s Rights Panel is planning a special action to save child labourers

Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) will soon undertake special operations along with Child Helpline-1098, Police, Railway Police and Women and Child Welfare Department and other departments to rescue child workers, identify missing children and reunite them with their parents and provide counseling on a much larger scale.

APSCPCR Chairman Vetukuri AVSSN Raju informed the media after conducting a review meeting along with District Collector Himanshu Shukla, APSCPCR Member KGV Padma Latha, ICDS Project Director Hena Sujan and District Child Welfare Officer Suresh here on Wednesday.

During the two-day visit, Mr. Raju inspected orphanages, Anganwadi centers and welfare hostels in the district. He said, “There is no compromise in protecting the rights of the child. Any cases of harassment, exploitation, child labour, child marriage or violation of child rights should be reported immediately to the child helpline on 1098.”

He emphasized that APSCPCR is moving forward with an action plan to ensure that every child grows up safe, educated and healthy. “In collaboration with the commission members and experts, an extensive study was conducted on issues such as the rise in bad habits among children, the adverse effects of social media and the trend of involving children in criminal activities,” he said.

“A report has been prepared and will soon be submitted to the government proposing to implement a robust action plan based on its recommendations,” he said.

Mr. Raju said that a special nationwide campaign will be launched soon to create awareness among children, especially regarding the psychological and social problems they face due to the influence of social media. He said the government will continue to ensure that funds meant for the welfare of children are not misused.

Mr. Raju further said, “I will specifically focus on implementing seat allocation for underprivileged students in both government and private schools to ensure that no child is deprived of education. Strict legal action will be taken against those who employ child labourers, facilitate child marriages or involve children in criminal activities like drug, marijuana and alcohol trafficking.”
