Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, Chairman, Law Commission of India, will deliver the CUK Convocation Address
The ninth convocation of the Central University of Karnataka (CUK), Kalaburagi, will be held at the university campus and Daganchi on the outskirts of the city on Saturday (November 8, 2025).
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Battu Satyanarayana, CUK Vice-Chancellor, said that a total of 27 students would be awarded gold medals; and one student – Siva Sahithi Somishetty of Bachelor of Technology in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering will receive the AM Pathana Gold Medal.
Prof. Satyanarayana said that around 628 students, including 504 students from graduate programs and 105 students from undergraduate programs; one MPhil degree and 18 research staff will receive a convocation certificate. Of the 628 students who applied online for convocation, 487 graduates will accept in person and 141 in absentia.
Regarding research and innovation activities, the Vice-Chancellor said the university has received a grant of ₹ 12.1 crore under ANRF’s (Anusandhan National Research Foundation) PAIR (Partnerships for Accelerated Innovation and Research) program, besides ₹ 1.2 crore sanctioned for the Vis andre crore development project, under the Visstainable Campus and Campus project ₹ 30 crore more for millet research and ₹ 1.05 crore from the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) for seven research projects at the university.
Prof. Satyanarayana said CUK-Kalaburagi has received a grant of ₹201.86 crore from the Education Department for major infrastructure development, this grant will support infrastructural facilities including setting up of two new academic blocks along with two hostels for boys and girls and staff quarters. Due to its growing academic standing, CUK was also ranked 151-200 among Indian universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025.
In response to the question of prof. Satyanarayana said with 3,000 students and 176 faculty members in 40 departments, the university boasts of a vibrant academic environment.
New programs
CUK-Kalaburagi introduced a five-year integrated BA LL.B. program from the current academic year (2025-26) with an intake capacity of 60 students. Even though all the places in the inaugural batch were filled, Prof. Satyanarayana expressed concern that only four students from the Kalyana region of Karnataka had enrolled and urged students from the region to apply for the newly launched law programme.
The university would start new programs by the next academic year including: M.Sc in Statistics and Data Analytics, Master of Library and Information Sciences (MLIS), he added.
