The Chief Electoral Officer should correct the confusion in the online platform for the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, K. Annamalai, former state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Coimbatore, said on Thursday.
Mr. Annamalai said there were several ambiguities in the form, especially in the online platform. For those filling the forms offline, the BLO should assist voters in filling them. Booth agent of political parties will also help voters and public should take advantage of it. Five lakh out of 6.5 lakh voters are said to have the form in the state, he told reporters.
On the problems faced by farmers in the state, Mr. Annamalai said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting Coimbatore on November 19, will interact with agricultural scientists, young farmers and those involved in subsistence farming. However, the Tamil Nadu government is not focusing on agriculture. Each district has a Joint Director of Agriculture who according to him does all other work except agriculture.
Carbon content of soil is decreasing in the state and the state government should provide 80% to 90% subsidy to the farmers for purchase of cattle. That’s the only way to increase carbon content, he said.
Regarding the crimes happening in the state, Mr. Annamalai said that while the government and the police should do their job better, the public is also responsible. Violence and caste are glorified in films; drug use is on the rise, criminals repeatedly engage in criminal activity. “As a society, we should also look at that (what is happening in the state),” he said.
