On Tuesday, the Ministry of the Interior of the Union (MHA) ordered NGOs (NGOs) to submit applications for the renewal of the Foreign Contribution Act (Regulation) (FCRA) registration at least four months before expiry.
The FCRA registration, which is mandatory for NGOs and associations to admit foreign funds, is renewed every five years.
In communication, the ministry noted that several associations submitted applications for restoration less than 90 days before the expiry of their certificates. “Such delayed submissions do not allow sufficient time to check and to obtain the necessary inputs from security agencies before expiry. ”
It also stated that the NGOs’ strictly recommended that they submit their renewal requests well in advance and in any case at least four months before their certificates expired.
As on Tuesday, 16 192 had an active registration of FCRA.
