
In a meeting with seafood exporters held here on Friday (April 10, 2026), the Union Ministry of Fisheries emphasized the need for continued market and product diversification, the importance of strict compliance, including compliance with antibiotic bans, and strengthened traceability systems in finding new export destinations. In a release, the ministry said on Saturday (April 11, 2026) that the meeting chaired by Union Fisheries Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh also discussed strategies to expand the reach of the global market.
The meeting noted that India’s seafood exports have crossed a new milestone, rising from ₹62,000 crore last year to around ₹68,000 crore this year, reflecting a net increase of around ₹6,000 crore. It was organized to provide a “structured platform” for government-seafood industry interaction and to get feedback from exporters on current market access challenges, price pressures and compliance requirements. It also discussed the measures necessary to increase value addition, market diversification and expansion of marine exports from islands, exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and high seas.
