The Center rushed ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Kiren Rijiju to Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) to assess the flood damage. Torrential rains have claimed three lives in the state since June 24.
The flood hit Assam’s Dhemaji district downstream of Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district, affecting 45,841 people in 188 villages. The district also reported the first human casualty of the year in Assam — a woman in Sissiborgaon area.
Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for deputing two ministers to assess the situation on the ground and said his government’s immediate priority was to ensure quick relief to every affected family, restore basic services and speed up reconstruction.
He said he accompanied Mr Chouhan and Mr Rijija to Keyi Panyor, one of the worst-affected districts, on Tuesday to assess the situation first-hand, review the ongoing response and understand the immediate demands of the communities.
The Chief Minister also called on Governor KT Parnaik, a retired Lt. Gen. to apprise him of the prevailing flood situation and measures taken by the government to provide relief and ensure the safety of the stranded.

12 districts affected
According to the Arunachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, 12 of the state’s 28 districts have been affected. Flooding damaged major roads and bridges, cut off at least five counties and damaged dozens of homes.
On June 24, five people went missing after flash floods hit a hydropower project colony in Keyi Panyor district. So far, rescuers have recovered three bodies, including two women.
Meanwhile, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said the Brahmaputra and Disang rivers were in flood, flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat and Nanglamuraghat. The authorities have set up 10 relief camps for 486 affected people.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he was monitoring the flood situation. “My cabinet colleagues and MLAs are on the ground overseeing the relief efforts, putting protective measures in place and ensuring timely assistance,” he said.
