The Earth’s first car lobby can seek more time to respond to the latest government proposal to introduce strict fuel efficiency standards, as car manufacturers weigh their feedback in the middle of the differences in this industry, directly known.
The Energy Efficiency Authority (Bee) asked all parties to respond within 21 days after the final proposal of the third company average fuel efficiency (cafes 3) of the standards on 25 September, which are to be carried out from 1 April 2027.
“It is a very complex object, so it will take more time than the industry reacts,” said the above. Car manufacturers are expected to provide their recommendations by October 16.
According to Siam, car creators did not disclose themselves how to respond to the proposal. The proposal provided some relief to small cars, but includes a provision to carry out strict fuel efficiency requirements for car manufacturers.
“We have just received a proposal from Bee on the basis of our submission provided in December 2024. We still have to reflect and align this internally,” said President Siam Shailesh Chandra, while responding to a question during a press conference on Wednesday. “Until we are a government, we do not want to talk about this topic.”
No update
In response to Mint’s questions about whether the industrial body will look for more time to answer, Rajesh Menon, Siam CEO, he said, “We have no further update that we could share right now. As soon as we send our representation to the government, we will be better in order to respond to this question.”
Siam includes all the main manufacturers of passenger vehicles as members, including Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, Tata Motors Ltd and Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd.
It will not be the first time that the industry industry did not respond during the proposed period. The agency published a proposal for standards on 28 July and applied for industry comments within 30 days. However, the government received no answer from the body.
The Mint announced on 18 September that Bee fears that it does not receive a reaction from industry in time, delaying the implementation of fuel efficiency standards.
Divided into small cars
The industry was divided into the question of small cars. While Maruti Suzuki demanded relaxation on small cars in earlier negotiations, Tata Motors and Mahindra, among other things, car manufacturers, opposed such relaxation against such relaxation.
In December, this industry is called Bee’s first proposal, which was issued in June last year, “too aggressive”, and said it could endanger the viability of the car. The industry began to discuss the standards again after the government asked how small cars could be granted some relaxation.
In his final proposal, Bee finally decided to give small manufacturers benefits. Cars less than four meters weighing less than 909 kg and powered SUB-1200 CC engines will gain 3 grams to calculate carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) for café 3.
Draft Bee released September September asks car manufacturers to gradually reduce the average fuel consumption of cars that sell from 3.73 liters per 100 km in 2027 to 3.01 liters by 2032.
