As many as three towing vehicles will be deployed in Jayanagar zone of Bengaluru South City Corporation from next week, according to the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).

South Corporation Commissioner KN Ramesh inspected the vehicles on Saturday and said they would soon be officially handed over to the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP), after which operations would begin.

The development comes after towing services resumed in the central and western parts of the city after nearly four years. While earlier towing operations were completely outsourced, BTP and civic associations will now carry out the operations jointly.

A BTP source told The Hindu that the towing initiative will complement Cobra Beat, which was launched last year to address congestion on link roads caused by improper parking.

In addition, companies are implementing a pay-and-park system and identifying new no-parking zones to supplement towing operations. However, implementation was slow, as was the case with the deployment of tow trucks. Although joint towing operations were discussed in July 2025, they have not yet been fully implemented. Sources said the transition from BBMP to GBA delayed the process and late procurement of vehicles further contributed to the delay.
