Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao and Jupally Krishna Rao at a cabinet sub-committee meeting in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced that a sub-committee of the state cabinet has decided to procure jowar (sorghum) along with maize to protect farmers’ interests.
The minister said that while the Telangana government is already procuring maize from its own funds, despite no support from the Centre, it will now extend procurement to jowar as well. He stressed that the decision would provide considerable relief to farmers struggling to get remunerative prices in the open market.
