On Tuesday, the Union concurrency approved the construction of a four -lane part from Paramakudi to Ramanathapuram in Tamil Nadu, at a total price of 1,853 Crore, for improved access to Rameswars and Dhanushkodim of Madurai.
The project will be developed in the Hybrid Annuity regime, in which the government provides 40% of the project costs to support construction during the construction period and the balance of 60% as an annuity payments in the period of operation together with interest, concessionaire.
The section between Madurai and Paramakudi is already a four -lane highway. According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Motorway, a detailed report of the project is prepared.
Rameswaam is an important Hindu pilgrimage site on the island. Ashwini Vaishnaw Minister and Broadcasting at a press conference said that together with the Pamban Rail bridge, which connects the Ramesware Temple with the mainland Tamil over, the highway would provide an improved connectivity to a religious and cultural destination.
The project will also combine key economic, social and logistics nodes across southern Tamil Nadu and strengthen multimodal integration by connecting to railway stations in Madurai and Rameshwaam, Madura International Airport, as well as two smaller ports in Pamban and Rameswaam.
Four-Laning will make the vehicle speed faster, from 48 km / h to 80 km / ha to reduce travel time by 40%, from 60 minutes to 35 minutes, according to the minister’s presentation.
