A bus for the employees of a private company caught fire late on Thursday in an accident at Melachuru village on the Venkatagiri-Naidupet road in Tirupati district.
A bus belonging to a company operating from Menakuru SEZ was heading towards Venkatagiri when a two-wheeler suddenly entered the road and collided with the bus.
The heavy impact of the collision caused the motorcycle to slide under the bus while the fuel tank opened, sparking a fire that engulfed the entire bus. Passengers jumped out of the burning bus to save their lives. None of the bus passengers were injured.
However, motorcyclist P. Pradeep Reddy (40) of Athivaram village in Ozili mandal, who reportedly got onto the main road from CC Kandriga road, sustained severe burns on the spot.
The incident created panic among the villagers in connection with bus accidents on highways across Andhra Pradesh.
