The Federation of University Teachers’ Associations and the Kerala University Teachers’ Association on Wednesday condemned the appointment of deans in Kerala University as politically motivated and against university norms.
The teachers’ bodies alleged that the Chancellor’s nominations for dean posts were made against established procedures and that qualified senior professors at the university were being deliberately overlooked. The disputed appointments were made in the faculties of business and management.
In separate statements, the organizations also said the vice-chancellor presented a biased panel to the chancellor to recommend individuals with political support without regard to academic merit. They warned that such actions would undermine the institution’s academic excellence and credibility.
According to them, the decision to appoint “outsiders” was influenced by political favoritism.
