The BJP Kisan Morcha will organize a round table on organic farming in Vijayawada on January 3.
In a press conference on Thursday, its state president Chigurupati Kumara Swamy described natural farming as a vital necessity for the future of farmers, soil health and food security, stressing that a shift to chemical-free farming is the need of the hour.
He said the meeting aims to create awareness among farmers on all aspects of natural farming, from seed selection and soil health to livestock rearing, preparation of natural inputs, certification and marketing.
Over-reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides has led to rising costs of cultivation, deterioration of soil fertility and an increase in health problems, he said. To reverse this trend, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to promote natural and organic farming as a national movement, he added.
Emphasizing the role of the Central Government, Mr. Kumara Swamy said that programs like Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), Bharatiya Prakriti Krishi Paddhati (BPKP) and National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture are encouraging farmers to adopt chemical-free practices. These initiatives provide training, certification support and market linkages along with efforts to secure better prices for organic products, he said.
