The BJP district unit staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Saturday (May 16), condemning the state government’s decision to withdraw uniform regulations introduced during the previous BJP rule in educational institutions across the state.
Umesh Jadhav, a former MP, said the policy introduced by the former BJP government during the hijab controversy in Karnataka required students to adhere to uniforms approved by school and college development committees. BJP leaders have consistently defended the rule, arguing that uniforms help uphold secular values, reduce visible socio-economic disparities among students and maintain discipline in universities.
BJP workers accused the state government of trying to create confusion in educational institutions by reversing the earlier order. The protestors argued that the scrapping of the uniform rule could adversely affect discipline and the academic atmosphere in schools and colleges.
The district unit of the BJP submitted a memorandum to the governor through the district administration, urging intervention in the matter and demanding a uniform policy to maintain order and equality in educational institutions.
Former minister Baburao Chavan, BJP spokesperson Sudha Halkai, BJP city president Chandrakant Patil and rural district president Ashok Bagli were present.
