New Delhi: The Central Office for Electricity (CEA) has prepared a list of critical components, including permanent magnets, voltage transformers and super capacitors that will require support for local production because Chinese curbs of rare soils endanger India.
CEA wrote to the parties to the parties to identify the most critical components in the industry that India is currently importing and looking for proposals that parts must be preferred for fiscal support.

Several industries in the country, including automotive and renewable energy sectors, face the crisis of elements and magnets of rare soils because China, which dominates global production, has tightened its offer. This made the government and society to look at the ways to become independent.
CEA proposed financial incentives, including subsidies for tension transformers, gas bus pipes and bus bars and hollow core insulators, which are largely imported from China; and insulating spaces of gas sections imported from Tai -wan. For electronic components, semiconductor devices such as thyristors, magnetic cores and direct current (DC), the energy sector authority has also proposed international technology partners together with financial incentives.
Along with the transmission of SOP and technology, the Office of Political Reforms and the Development of Testing and Certification Facilities recommended to increase domestic production of permanent magnets for action drives that provide a consistent magnetic field for energy movement. These magnets are also imported from China.
In the letters of June 11 for public sector businesses, the energy sector manufacturers and players who use these components and the Indian Association of Electrical Engineering and Electronics (IEEEMA), CEA said it has prepared a list of critical items that are imported in addition to mentioning the manufacturer’s support for these items.
“In this context, comments/proposals/inputs are invited from all parties to the Parties, including users in the PSU and other industries to decide on the prioritization of the items listed in the attached list (attachment) identified critical items or any other items that the parties that are critical and supported for their original development,” he said.
The Office also asked the industry to mention the costs, volume and percentage of critical items in the total product costs.
“The PurPose is to prioritize items what are more critical. It would be a Great Help, if any agency/stakeholder can share data about the total quantity and or value of Import of this item during past three. Be Clearly Quantified in Terms of Percentage/ Forms of the Financial Incentives (Interest Subvention/ Grant) and Subsidies So The Total Financial Implication May Be Quantified and Composite Proposal Can Be Prepared Based on Criticality of Item. ”
Inteeded parties must present their comments by June 20.
