The Australian all-rounder has become the most expensive player in the WPL 2027 auction

According to former India cricketer Aakash Chopra, Grace Harris could prove to be the most expensive player in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction. The Australian all-rounder has established herself as one of the most devastating batsmen in women’s T20 cricket and her ability to contribute with the ball could attract considerable interest from franchises.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) released Harris ahead of the auction, leaving the 33-year-old available to join another franchise. It entered the auction at a base price of Rs 30 crore. With limited slots available for all five teams, the proven match-winners who can impress with both bat and ball could attract a lot of interest.

Chopra believes Harris’ explosive hitting and all-round ability could make her one of the most sought-after players in the mini-auction.

“I think Grace Harris would be the most expensive player in this minor auction. Of course, in a minor auction the availability of players is limited. The demand will also not be very high as most teams have held on to their main players.”

“But I still feel that the kind of batter she is and contributes with the ball as well could be in demand,” Chopra said while speaking on JioStar’s ‘TATA WPL Auction: Most Wanted’.

WHO CAN BUY GRACE HARRIS?

UP Warriorz could emerge as potential bidders for Harris, with the franchise holding the biggest purse of Rs 3.75 crore going into the auction. Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians and RCB have a purse of 1.1 million, 1.25 million, 0.9 million and 1.15 million respectively. Harris has played for the Warriors before, so the possibility of a reunion.

“Who has the biggest purse? It’s UP Warriorz again. So if UP Warriorz are interested, I feel she could be the most expensive player in this auction,” added Chopra.

Representing both UP Warriorz and RCB in the WPL, Harris has shown her ability to turn matches with her aggressive move play. In 31 WPL matches, she scored 818 runs at a strike rate of 149.54, including five half-centuries.

Her highest score in the competition is 85. She has also taken 15 wickets, with best bowling figures of 4/15, underlining her value as a true all-rounder. Harris is also one of four bowlers with a WPL hat-trick along with Issy Wong, Deepti Sharma and Nandni Sharma

The WPL 2027 Player Auction is scheduled to be held in Kochi, Kerala on October 28, 2026.
