Srimukhalingam temple chief priest Naidugari Rajasekhar on Monday urged Archaeological Survey of India Director General Yadubir Singh Rawat to take steps to set up a museum on the temple premises in Srikakulam district.
He met a senior official in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum explaining the importance of the temple.
He said, “The temple, which was built in the 8th century, would attract more pilgrims by building a museum.” He also asked the government to give special priority to the Chakrateertham festival held every year after Mahashivaratri. He said it is the biggest festival celebrated where more than one million people take a sacred dip in the river Vamsadhara on the Kumbhamela line of the river Ganga.
