Officer of the Assam State Service (ACS), who was arrested for the alleged property of the wealth of disproportionate income, accumulated assets 400 times more than her known sources of income, said the main Minister Himant Bisw Sarma on Tuesday (September 16, 2025).
Criminal measures were monitored over the suspension or release from work to ensure that the officer was responsible in accordance with the law, Mr. Sarma said.
ACS Nupur Borah officer was arrested by a special vigilance cell CM after searching for more than 92.50 Lakh in cash and ornaments on Monday (September 15, 2025) worth almost 1.5 crore).
At the time of her arrest, Mrs. Borah was sent as an officer of a circle in Goraimari in the district of Kamrup.
“She has accumulated wealth 400 times more than her well -known sources of income. We think not only suspension or release from work would be enough. We must ensure criminal measures through a legal process,” Mr. Sarma told reporters about the side line of the Baksa district.
Several others were also involved and questioned, CM said.
“It is my request for the public to be vigilant and inform us if an official asks for bribes,” he added.
Mr. Sarma said Mrs. Borah has been under survival in the last six months when she allowed an illegal land transfer agreement while published as an officer in a barpet circle for which she was later shifted from the district.
Meanwhile, she said in Guwahati that Mrs. Borah was arrested on the basis of a preliminary investigation, a senior superintendent of the police (SSP), a special vigilation cell cm, Rosie Kalita.
“We searched her apartment in Guwahati and rented accommodation in the barpet and recovered over 92.50 lakh in cash. It is still the largest amount of cash earned by our cell,” said Mrs. Kalita.
Mrs. Kalita said the arrested officer had two land and three apartments in her name in Guwahati, except for renewed cash and jewelry.
“These are all preliminary findings. The investigation is underway,” SSP said.
