The branch for investigating crime in Mumbai uncovered the MEDHONE (MD) production unit in Cherlapally after the arrest of a 23 -year -old woman in Mumbai’s Mira Road in the first week of August.
The breakthrough came on August 8, when the police arrested Fatim Murad Shaikh, aka Molla, a native of Bangladesh, near Kashimir’s bus stop on Mira Road. Police officers in Mumbai confiscated 178 grams of Mephedrone, 23,97 ₹ Lakh in cash and other valuables from its ownership. The value of the confiscated mephedron is reportedly CRZ 9.
The case was reserved under several provisions of the Act on Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances (NDPS) of 1985, as well as the Act on Immigration and Foreigners, 2025.
During the interrogation of Shaikh, he revealed that the drug came from Telangana. In August, a team of 15 officers arrived in Hyderabad, including three higher officials to explore its leadership.
It took them to Navodaya Colony in Cherapall, where the 5th September revealed the factory illegally the production of MD. Police sources in Mumbai said the raid was carried out on Vagdev Laboratories PVT Ltd. “We arrested the owner and chemical analyst from the company,” the officer said.
“Inside we found almost 5.8 kilograms of mephedron, 35,500 liters of chemicals, 950 kilograms of powder and other materials used in the production of synthetic drug,” said an officer involved in the probe.
The operation led to the arrest of 12 individuals associated with the missile. The police also confiscated 27 mobile phones, four vehicles, electronic weight machines and equipment used in the production of drugs.
The officer said the factory operates on a large industrial scale with the potential to flood the market with large volumes of narcotics.
The leaders, including another police and deputy police commissioner (crime), supervised the investigation, while Inspector Pramod Badakh and his team led the raids to the ground.
