Cell and molecular biology Center announced the extension of its new screening based on molecular tests on the Anemia of Srp (SCA) on Jharkand in connection with Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) and the current national national health mission (NHM) on Friday.
The pilot project deals with three districts of the eastern and western districts of Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan, where about two lakhs from the vulnerable tribal groups will be checked for two years.
CCMB Director Vinay Kumar Nandicoori, JC Bose Fellow & Senior Scientist Gr Chandak, CEO of TSF Sourav Roy, public health, Anu Bhatnagar, said at a press conference that the cooperation would allow timely sca detection, raise the awareness of the disease and contribute to its removal.
SCA is a genetic disorder due to mutation that changes the structure of red blood cells, which is in the shape of a sickle, leading to chronic anemia and other problems. If both parents have a recessive gene, they can pass it to their offspring with one of four cases. This can be prevented by counseling from marriage or pre -testing and later premature screening, medical intervention and treatment.
Mr.Chandak said CCMB will train field assistants, ASHA workers and more. It also creates a SCA testing hub, helps in consulting carriers and attracts a pre -diagnosis for couples to prevent diseases of future generations.
It has also been found that the prevalence of the Sca is high between the tribal population of Kothagud, Bhadrachalam, Telangana and other regions during preliminary testing. “We are also exploring the opportunity to offer our expertise of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh through state health missions,” the scientist said.
Mr. Vinay Kumar explained the role of the Institute in Screening SCA, the development of the test of the indigenous molecular dried blood, the re -drug for “hydroxyurea” cancer and research of other drugs. He also talked about “Crispr” technology, which is currently being tested worldwide, including India, which could provide a radical breakthrough for healing SCAs, but it is still gone for years.
Mr.Roy and Mr. Bhatnagar spoke about the importance of CCMB’s pact with tribal population and logistics. The project would gradually expand.
