The Andhra Pradesh Congress Party has decided to contest all the seats in the local body elections

The first meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC), chaired by AICC in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs and MLC PV Mohan, on Sunday decided that the party will contest all seats in the upcoming urban and rural local body elections in the state.

The marathon meeting held at Andhra Ratna Bhavan in Vijayawada reviewed the political and organizational situation in the state and discussed preparations for the elections, with the State Election Commission gearing up for the exercise.

The PAC has also decided to constitute a three-member committee to discuss and finalize possible alliances with INDIA block parties, like-minded parties and organizations opposed to BJP and NDA.

Census of castes

Meanwhile, on the caste census, a statement issued by the Congress leadership on Sunday said the party has decided to intensify its campaign to include a separate column and a different code for Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the prescribed format for the ongoing caste census process.

Party leaders were of the view that the socio-economic survey of OBCs should be conducted as part of the census. They also decided to call on the BJP to live up to the assurance given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament on the matter and organize public programs highlighting its stand.

The PAC discussed allegations of corruption related to the TDP and YSRCP regimes, particularly in relation to PDS mines, liquor, sand, land and rice. It also reviewed issues related to the implementation of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014, including special category status, apart from the drought situation and problems faced by farmers.

The PAC decided to hold meetings once in three months and it was also decided to prepare a panel of senior Congress leaders who would take turns in daily meetings at the PCC office.
