The Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana halted at Mandya with a grand procession

The 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana began with a grand cultural parade in Mandya on Friday with Go.Ru. Channabasappa, president of the sammelana, sits on a chariot and leads the procession.

The procession was halted by Nirmalanandanatha Swami of Sri Adichunchanagiri Mutt near the statue of Visvesvaraya in the presence of Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy and Kannada Sahitya Parishath President Mahesh Joshi. Other participants included Jnanpith awardee Chandrashekar Kambar and poet Doddarange Gowda.

Hundreds of people, including writers, artists, school children and government officials, marched for 6 km, waving yellow and red flags and banners.

There were hundreds of artistes with various cultural groups performing Kamsaale, Dollu Kunitha, Pooja Kunitha, Veeragaase, Nandi Dhwaja, Navilu Kunitha, Bombe Kunitha, Nagari, Kangeelu Kunitha and other performances. A carnival atmosphere prevailed along the entire route of the parade.

People and children were busy taking selfies with the dolls and artists painted in rich colors. In the main streets, school students waved flags to welcome the groups.

The sammelana, which is being held in Mandya after 30 years, concludes on Sunday.
