Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Chief AP Singh on Thursday (March 12, 2026) conducted an operational formation sortie in a MiG-29UPG fighter jet from a forward air base, underscoring the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) focus on maintaining high operational standards and combat readiness.
The IAF said the formation was led by Flight Lieutenant Parvinder Singh. Before recovering, the formation performed a clever breakaway maneuver over the runway, demonstrating the precision of flying and the high level of operational training maintained by the squadron.
Air Warriors at the base maintained a high level of operational readiness during the visit and actively participated in flying-related activities, it added.
During the visit, the CAS commander was briefed on the operational role of the squadron, the enhanced capabilities of the MiG-29UPG platform and the significant legacy of the unit. The Squadron is set to complete 63 years since its inception in 1963, reflecting a long history of service in protecting the nation’s skies.
CAS also worked with aircrew, engineers, and ground personnel and recognized the critical role of technical and support personnel in maintaining the operational availability of combat platforms.
He also met veterans from surrounding areas and appreciated their continued connection to the Air Force community and their contribution to preserving its traditions and ethos.
