(Pic credit: Womenscriczone Instagram page) Australian women’s cricket vice-captain Ashleigh Gardner has found herself at the center of a major personal controversy after her estranged wife Monica Wright publicly accused her of infidelity and named a teammate as involved in the alleged affair. In a series of Instagram posts, Wright claimed Gardner had been cheating on her and shared a photo of Australian opener Georgia Voll with the caption: “This is who my wife cheated on me with…The posts came shortly after the Daily Mail reported that Gardner and Wright had split following the acrimonious breakdown of their marriage.Sharing the Daily Mail report, Wright first suggested that the breakup reports were “too vague” before naming Voll in a subsequent Instagram story. Not only did the post address the alleged infidelity, but it also seemed to reinforce reports that the split was far from amicable.Wright also removed all photos of Gardner from her Instagram account, including pictures from their wedding ceremony.Neither Gardner nor Voll have publicly responded to Wright’s allegations. Cricket Australia has also not commented on the claims.

The marriage reportedly broke up months after the wedding
Gardner and Wright married in April 2025 in a ceremony attended by several members of the Australian women’s cricket team. However, according to a Daily Mail report, the relationship allegedly began to sour during the two months Gardner was in India for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup.Citing a team source, the publication said teammates sensed something was “off” during the tournament, especially after Wright traveled to India to visit Gardner. An insider claimed that the atmosphere around the pair appeared tense, although many initially put it down to the pressures of the World Cup.After returning to Sydney, Gardner reportedly had a private conversation with Wright that effectively ended the marriage. According to the report, Wright was left “broken” after Gardner explained why things had changed during the India tour. The Daily Mail went on to report that the split proved particularly painful as the couple had reportedly planned to start a family and had even scheduled an appointment at a fertility clinic before the split.Gardner is believed to have moved out of the home they shared later in the year, reportedly leaving only his wedding rings behind. Sources cited in the publication claimed the separation had sent shockwaves through Australia’s close-knit women’s team, with Wright having developed strong friendships with several players over the previous five years. The Daily Mail also reported that Cricket Australia was aware of the marriage breakdown. Cricket Australia’s chief communications officer Richard Hinds responded with a curt “no comment” when asked for comment.
