
A van collided head-on with a cement mixer on a bridge in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Monday, killing 11 people and seriously injuring two others, police said.
The accident took place around 10:45 am at Raita Bridge in Govili village of Murbad, according to a district rural police official, according to PTI.
The van was traveling from Kalyan to Murbad when it hit an oncoming cement mixer, the official added.
Both the injured were taken to Ulhasnagar Central Hospital, Murbad tehsildar Abhijit Deshmukh said. Six have been identified among the victims and the identification process is ongoing, a senior police official said.
The official said eight men and three women were among the victims. Traffic on the Kalyan–Ahilyanagar route was disrupted for several hours after the accident, but the road has since been cleared, he added.

The vehicle also rammed into another passing motorcycle, seriously injuring four members of the family.
The incident took place on the Banda–Kanpur road on Sunday evening. Police said the accused, identified as Deepak Soni, was absconding following a family dispute involving his minor sister-in-law.
According to officials, the victims chased the car and managed to overtake it when the accused deliberately drove into them.
Police said the entire episode stemmed from a domestic dispute. The accused is currently absconding.

“Preliminary findings suggest that the driver may have deliberately hit the motorcycles that were chasing his car,” Bindki Police Station SHO Pramod Kumar Rao said.

The deceased have been identified as Deepak Soni’s relatives Satyavan Soni (26) and Manoj Soni (18) along with their friend Anna Sonkar (40), who was riding a separate motorcycle. All three were thrown from the vehicles on impact and died on the spot, Circle Officer (Bindki) Pragati Yadav said.
The injured were identified as Surendra Kumar (30), his sister Mamta Devi (35) and her children Pallavi (8) and Arpit (10).
Meanwhile, at least 12 passengers were injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus hit a slope while traveling on a mountain road near Amb on Sunday, officials said.
The incident took place near Sidh Chalehar when a bus carrying about 50 passengers and heading from Dharamshala to Punjab’s Hoshiarpur reportedly suffered a possible brake failure, making it difficult for the driver to stop the vehicle.
A major tragedy was averted when the driver skilfully guided the bus into a rocky slope alongside the road to stop it and prevent it from plunging into a ravine. A car parked in front of a roadside restaurant was also hit and damaged during the attempt.
