Five persons sustained injuries and 40 two-wheelers were destroyed during a fire in a residential building a parking lot in the basement of a building in Maharashtra’s Thane district early Sunday morning.

According to the authorities, the fire broke out at the lower level of the parking lot of the residential complex in the Sagaon locality of Dombivli around 4 am.

One woman suffered burns, while a man was injured after jumping from a first-floor apartment to escape; three other residents sustained minor injuries, said Namdeo Chowdhary, director of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation fire department. PTI.

The victims, all of whom lived on the first floor of the building, are currently receiving medical treatment at a local hospital, he added.

At least 40 two-wheelers located in the basement were completely gutted by the flames, the official noted.

Two fire brigades were immediately dispatched to the scene and successfully extinguished the fire within an hour.

Chowdhary said the specific cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation.

Fire in multi-storied building in Kolkata

The fire, which broke out in the apartment complex at 10:40 a.m., was extinguished by five fire units by noon. There are no reports of any injuries.

Emergency management personnel and civil rescue services also arrived at the scene and took steps to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent apartments.

The fire was contained to a single apartment on the fifth floor and did not spread to other parts of the building, the official said.

The residents of the flat were not present inside when the fire broke out when they had gone to a nearby temple to offer puja, he said.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are not yet known, he added.

The Peerumade fire station received an emergency call around 4:30 p.m., reporting a car on fire, officials said.

Two fire tenders reached the spot within 10 minutes and doused the fire, the official added.

There were five passengers in the vehicle, all natives of Tamil Nadu, who were returning from a visit to the Sabarimala temple.

When the passengers noticed smoke coming from the car, they immediately evacuated and escaped without injury, police said.

Preliminary suspicion suggests that the cause of the fire could have been engine overheating.

The Department of Motor Vehicles (MVD) will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident, Fire and Rescue Service officials said.

A fire at a shopping center in Yemen kills one and injures 13

One person was killed and 13 were injured afterwards a fire broke out in shopping center in the Yemeni city of Marib on Sunday, state news agency Sheba he said.

The fire, which broke out after midnight on Saturday, destroyed the mall and damaged nearby shops, Sheba added.

The death and injuries were caused by suffocation, he said.
