Hundreds of youth gathered under makeshift tents on Wednesday to protest at Dharna Chowk on Lower Tank Bund Road, demanding the state government to issue a recruitment notification and announce the job calendar. Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) exam aspirants held placards demanding that the government keep its promise.

Around 200 to 300 students from different parts of Hyderabad took part in the dharna, which was held peacefully with police permission, between 11 am and 2 pm. The aspirants sat on the road and held placards with inscriptions such as “No job calendar, 2000 jobs at once”, “Job guarantees”, “Youth anger and “promises, danger to government”. Water bottles were stacked next to seated protesters as slogans were raised at intervals.

Police said a relatively smaller bandobus was organized as the protest had prior permission, with around 100 to 150 police officers deployed in and around the area to regulate movement and ensure law and order.

An aspirant at the protest, who did not wish to be named, said the prolonged uncertainty was draining students. “We have been preparing for years without knowing when the notifications will come. At least a proper work calendar will give us clarity and help us plan our future,” said the student.

Police officials present at the spot said there were no untoward incidents during the dharna and the protesters dispersed peacefully after 2 pm, leaving traffic in the surrounding areas largely unaffected.
