The Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) on Saturday (October 18) announced its recent past developments and its plan for the coming year. While the mission remains to make Telangana a global hub for quality higher education, Council Chairman V. Balakista Reddy affirmed that “higher education is moving from quantity to quality – institution to innovation and regulation to facilitation.”
Addressing the media, he said that the Council has moved the Telangana Council of Higher Education Act, 2024 to create an independent governance framework. In addition, a redesigned digital platform has been launched that offers real-time access to academic timetables, exam notifications and institutional data to cater to over 187,000 users.
Mr. Reddy said the curriculum and skill development has been overhauled to integrate more than 20 credits of skill-based courses in areas like AI, cyber security and soft skills. In addition, the Council has facilitated partnerships with international institutions, including the University of San Diego and the University of Birmingham, to support research and innovation.
The upcoming initiatives of TGCHE, he said, will be in line with the national priorities of NEP 2020 and the state vision of ‘Telangana Rising 2047’. These include digital transformation of all universities through ERP and academic management systems, establishment of district skill and research centres, support for faculty exchange and international mobility programmes, research clusters in frontier areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology and clean energy, and strengthening governance transparency through e-office and RTI awareness.
