The multidisciplinary course is mandatory for students of the third semester in a four -year program. There was some confusion among the teachers about the course after KSHEC recently brought a textbook called Knowledge Systems of Keral, because the university has already prepared its own curriculum.
KSHEC published its publication in English and Malayalam and covered Keral’s traditional knowledge, including its artistic arts, oral stories, cultural practices and documented literary sources. V-CS universities have been asked to order their study councils to consider this to be a basic source for the design of the course and preparation of the syllab. However, some teachers argued that this was a “violation” of the authority of the legal academic bodies, which are tasked with the development of the curriculum.
They pointed out that the curriculum prepared by the University for the Keral Knowledge Systems course in 2024 were in line with the framework of the National Educational Policy. The Academic Council and members of the faculty checked it. Textbooks were also prepared and classes began on the basis of the curriculum prepared by the university. It was argued that the prescribing uniform syllab, which would have to be taught in the translation of the Department of English, Malayalam, Arabic, Urdu, Sanskrit and other languages against the concept of academic autonomy.
