A step towards dealing with the questions of illegal defeat and ejecting meat waste in the capital will be carried out on this world environmental day on Thursday, as Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation will start a test operation of a modern slaughterhouse in Kunnukuzha. The main infrastructure work in the slaughterhouse has now been completed only by the remaining painting work and landscaping.
Meanwhile, the civic body hosted a tender on Friday, requiring offers of specialized companies for operation and maintenance and overall management of a modern slaughterhouse. The selected agency will be required to use the mechanized defeat system and handling with mass bodies to allow the hygienically loser healthy meat to the local population according to the slaughter fees to be adjusted during the offer.
The plant, built at the price of 15 crore, has the ability to handle 75 larger animals and 50 small animals a day. It will also have a capacity to hold 75 livestock. Solid waste will be treated on site using a biogas plant. The rendering plant will be used to process many soft tissues and bones. The by -product from the wastewater treatment plant will be supplied to the industries connected to the production of animal feed. The remaining fine solids and washing of water from the slaughterhouse will go to the wastewater treatment plant.
Trial
The test run will be carried out by means of materials of weight equivalent for live animals to check the correct functioning of different units of slaughterhouse. After the test run, the plant is expected to be fully functional by the end of the month.
The company will stop all illegal defeat within its limit from the date of the opening of a modern slaughter house. No meat without a seal of corporation will be able to sell in stalls with masses in the city. The civic body registers all meat owners/butchers in corporation and provides approval for bringing animals to the slaughterhouse for their own defeat.
Electric and Allied Engineering Company Limited (Kel) is an implementation agency for a project. The project for the establishment of a modern slaughterhouse in Kunnukuzha has now become a long -term story of stretching for eleven years, during which many proposals were canceled before the implementation began. In February 2013, Slaughterhouse Kunnukuzha was closed because it was not possible to manage the waste generated by a scientific way if there is no centralized waste treatment plant. The Council for Control of Pollution ordered its closure for non -compliance in the creation of plants to treat waste on slaughterhouses.
