The former main selector of MSK Prasad appreciated Rohit Sharma’s decision to leave the test cricket and called him a selfless step that favors the future of the team. Prasad explained that the timing of Rohit’s retirement decision made perfect sense, especially with selectors set to select a group for the upcoming test series in England, starting on June 20.
Rohit announced his retirement from a test cricket Wednesday 7th May through the story of Instagram. The announcement, which came in the middle of the IPL 2025 season, surprised many.
“Probably, we will see, I think that in the next few days selectors could choose a team for the test series, so that’s a reason. That’s why he would call,” said Edtiaday.in.
“The second thing is that because the two-year cycle will start from this series, it will probably remember it as well. Although he would like to play this series-Má in England-His Heart a decent record in England, which should play another series before making the final decision,” he added.
“But I think it’s a wonderful gesture that he has put the interests of the team before his individual ambitions, because the group he chose now will probably stay in the next two years and around.”
Rohit was also awarded part of the cricket community for Discharged from the final test of the 2025 series in Sydney. While he acknowledged his bad form, Rohit showed that the decision was not a sign of his retirement.
“Now, again, because he is the selfless captain he is, he built the interests of the team ahead. I think it’s great,” Pig said.
MASTERTROKE 2019
Rohit’s path in the test cricket was not always smooth. Despite his great success in cricket white ball, he tried to find a place on the test side. His career became only in 2019. He was promoted to open shifts, the decision of the Prasad during his time was involved as chairman of the selectors.
“The decision we had was that after scoring five centuries at the World Championship, we thought that someone could run in England and the score so consistently-didn’t?” He remembered the pig. “That was at a time when we also had a little problem with the opening. You know, Mayank Agarwal just started to come, they were too young and Murali Vijay disappeared. So a small crossing happened.”
“And because Rohit was in a fantastic form, we thought why not give him an opportunity as an opener? This is what they discussed about leadership and everyone, and we gave him this opportunity to play as an opener. He accepted it with both hands and he recorded it in his first series against South Africa.
Rohit’s retirement comes at a time when its test form hit a gross patch. After the clear start of the captain, his position came under the Whitewash series 0-3 against New Zealand at home and defeat 1-3 in Australia during the Border-Gavascar trophy.
Its personal appearance also immersed the season of the 2024-25 season only 164 runs in eight tests, including only 36 runs in three matches against Australia. Selectors who faced the call of the new World Cup cycle had to consider the risk of carrying a 38 -year -old opener whose performance was no longer coincidental.
Rohit that had shone in England during the 2021 tour, expressed his desire to have one last in English conditions. However, his decision to retreat before the tour allows selectors to select a new leader, with Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant.
Can Rohit play the World Cup by 2027?
While his test chapter has now been closed, Rohit’s focus will move firmly to ODIS. In his pension remark, he showed that he would continue to play in a 50-over format.
Prasad believes that Rohit still has unfinished business, especially with one main trophy that is missing from his cabinet.
“I don’t know about it, but his heart is still in cricket. We know what he can do in a cricket-what he did at the World Championship in 2023, what he did in the champions trophies,” Prasad said. “So I’m not sure if he lasts so long, but this is a format very close to his heart. Probably that’s why he wants to play.”
Rohit ended his test career 4 301 runs, of which 11 hundreds. In 67 tests he led 25, won 12 and lost nine.
