Nathan Lyon expressed disappointment after he was omitted from the Australian third test against West India in Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. Although Lyon Fit and available, he was omitted from playing XI – a decision that surprised his and his teammates. This change was a tactical step towards strengthening the pace attack, due to the expected conditions preferring fast pitch in a pink ball match.
Selectors, including Tony Dodemaide, stressed that Lyon’s exclusion was caused by “exceptional circumstances” and did not reflect its form or fitness. The decision was based on historical data and training analysis, suggesting that spin bowling would probably have a limited role in the game.

In his omission, Lyon said, as Espncricinfo quoted: “I don’t make sense to hide it, I was disappointed by a decision, but I understood it completely.”
“Disappointed from several levels that: one, I believe I can play a role in any conditions and still sincerely believe it. And then honestly, the other should not go out to the star field. I played 90 odd test matches with the stars, so I was able to go with him in his 100., would be amazing.
