A one-day National Conference on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was organized here on February 4 by Teresian College Research Center (Commerce), Teresian College, Mysuru. The goal of the conference was to create awareness of the growing importance of intellectual property rights in research, innovation, business, industry and the digital economy.
The inaugural session was attended by academics including H. Rajashekar of the University of Mysore and P. Ishwara Bhat, former Vice-Chancellor of the National University of Legal Sciences, Calcutta. Prof. In his speech, Rajashekar highlighted the importance of intellectual property rights in the digital era, noting that rapid industrial growth has increased the risk of duplication of creative and innovative works. Prof. Bhat emphasized that intellectual property rights play a vital role in protecting original ideas, promoting innovation, preserving culture and contributing to national economic growth.
Reverend Dr. Sr. Sahaya Mary, Principal, Teresian College, reminded the participants of their responsibilities as a student body, while Veena M. D’Almeida, Director of Research, and Vivek Charles, Coordinator, Internal Quality Assurance Cell, were also present. PM Shivaprasad, Assistant Professor also attended.
The conference featured four technical sessions on patents, designs, trademarks, copyrights and intellectual property rights in the digital era, delivered by experts and academics. The event provided an academic platform for meaningful discussions on the topic.
