Voters in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District cast their ballots today to fill the U.S. House seat left vacant after Republican Mark Green resigned from his seat.
Tennessee Elections: When Will Voting Close? Who are the candidates?
Voting ends at 7:00 PM CT (8:00 PM ET) on December 2nd (local time). The gates of all polling stations will be closed by 7 p.m. However, those who join the queue at 19:00 or earlier will also be able to vote.
There are about 466,000 registered voters who will cast their ballots in the election. Some of the major cities that fall under the 7th congressional district are Clarksville, Franklin and parts of Nashville.
The GOP nominee is Matt Vap Eps, who hopes to cash in on Mark Green’s base.
On the other hand, the competitor of the Democratic Party is Aftyn Behn.
Location of the polling station, details of the ballot paper sent
Voters can find their polling stations on the website named GoVoteTN. Once you enter your address on this website, you will be shown the nearest polling station.
Mail-in ballots are accepted in Tennessee, but must be mailed on Election Day, which is Tuesday. If they don’t reach polling stations by the end of voting on Tuesday, those votes won’t be considered eligible.
What could the outcome mean for Republicans?
Although the seat was vacated by a Republican, experts are predicting a close race this time around. Emerson College conducted a poll to see which candidate was the most popular, and Republican Matt Vap Epps edged his opponent by 2 percentage points.
The poll also showed that 5 percent of voters are undecided and their votes could swing the election in favor of either candidate.
If the GOP loses, it will be an embarrassment for them because Tennessee is traditionally a red state. Following Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York despite Trump and his supporters voicing their strong views against him, a Democratic victory in the red bastion is sure to make GOP leaders wonder if their fortunes at the polls have taken a hit due to Trump’s declining approval ratings, with the 2026 midterms just around the corner.
